The heat and humidity of Maltese summers is something unbelievable. It’s currently August, so we’re at the peak of Hell. I’m a makeup lover with oily-to-combination skin who keeps the window open in December, so the last thing I want is to be sweating in almost 40C heat.
Here are some things I’ve incorporated into my makeup routine in summer.
Get Your Base Right
Use a light, oil-free moisturiser on freshly cleansed skin to have a solid base on which to layer your makeup.
Prime your face with an oil-free primer and an eye primer is great too if you’re going to a heavier eyeshadow look. Starting off and finishing your base with a spritz of a setting spray is another option.
Have A Light Hand
You’ll thank yourself for not layering your foundation and concealer too much, when all you want to do is wipe your face. If you can skip foundation altogether and use concealer only, all the better.
Lay Off The Highlight
Yes, your highlight might be popping on IG, but when you’re already naturally ‘glowing’, adding an extra layer of shine might not work out very well for you.

Find yourself some good quality waterproof eyeliner and mascara to avoid the dreaded panda eye. It only suits pandas.

Lighten Your Lips
A light coloured, matte lipstick is less likely to smear or smudge when your upper lip is giving Michael Phelps a run for his money. You might also want to skip the lip gloss.
Keep A Hand Fan In Your Bag
Ok, so this isn’t technically a makeup tip. But a hand fan is amazing when you’re all flustered. Dab away any moisture from your face and go to town fanning yourself. You might feel like a granny, but trust me, the haters will be jealous.
